LAUREL HILL — This Saturday, Magnolia Baptist Church joins other area churches in helping students from underprivileged families get ready for school.
The church’s annual backpacks and clothing giveaway, coupled with free haircuts, becomes a community-wide effort, the church’s pastor, the Rev. Bob Smith, said.
While snacks and drinks will be available, Smith said the annual event “is mostly going to focus on clothing, school supplies and haircuts.”
Donations of clothing and money came from Magnolia’s members, neighbors, the Laurel Hill Grill and the Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, Smith said.
“We’re a small church,” member Linda Truman said. “We’re very dependent on outside donations.”
“It’s made possible through God’s blessings and people’s generosity,” Smith said.
