Court date set for woman accused of stabbing man in the back

Jennifer Denney

CRESTVIEW — A 35-year-old Valparaiso woman — charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon — will appear in court Aug. 5.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies were called to North Okaloosa Medical Center on June 28 for a stabbing, according to the arrest report. The victim said he and a friend had been at the Bent Oak Saloon.

Jennifer M. Denney argued with the victim, according to a deputy's report that stated the fight escalated and became physical when Denney slapped the victim several times.

The victim said he told Denney that if she was a man he would have fought her, the report said. He said he turned to walk away and felt Denney punch him in the back. It was only after he felt his back getting wet that he realized he'd been stabbed, according to the report.

Denney admitted to the verbal argument, but denied stabbing the man. She admitted they had "bumped into one another" during the argument and that she'd had her keys in her hand.

The victim required six stitches, according to the report.
