HAPPENING NOW: Sheriff's office investigating North Crestview shooting

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office officers on Garden Street near Crestview High School investigate a shooting that occurred early Tuesday afternoon. No school students or personnel were involved.

CRESTVIEW —Deputies from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a shooting investigation near Crestview High School after the victim was dropped off at the North Okaloosa Medical Center.

Following procedures in the case of gunshot wounds, the hospital contacted the sheriff’s office when the victim was brought in. The call was received at 12:56 p.m.

Under Sheriff Don Adams said the victim may have known his assailant. The man has been life-flighted to a Pensacola hospital for a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Adams emphasized that at the preliminary stage of the investigation, the incident did not involve high school property, staff or students.

“It had nothing to do with the school as far as we know at this point,” Adams said. “We don’t know for sure where the crime scene was because the victim was dropped off at the hospital.”

Conflicting information has been received about how many people were involved, Adams said.

“Initial reports might have indicated possibly two assailants,” he said. “It does not appear to be some random act.”

Adams said there are currently three investigators plus patrol officers on the Garden Street scene. The road, which winds past the south side of the high school, is currently closed to through traffic.

Deputies on the scene confirmed it was not a domestic incident investigation.
