CRESTVIEW — The second annual Antioch "Flight of the Aviator" 5K Run/Walk, featuring Kids Fun Runs, raised more than $2,000 for the school's parent teacher organization, event organizers said.
Despite Saturday's rain, more than 160 participants attended the event at the elementary school, race director Carol Strom said.
Ben Tapia and Meagen Ritacco placed first in the 5K's male and female divisions. Funds raised will help purchase teacher supplies and teaching aid programs.
"There is always a need," Strom said. "People tend to think a lot of schools are rolling in money, and that is simply not the case."
The PTO, which regularly organizes cookie dough or candle sales, aims to meet all teachers' needs, whether it's school supplies or getting new equipment, Strom said.
"A lot of the teachers spend money out of their own pocket," she said.
