More than 50 Gulf Power line personnel and support staff assisted sister company Georgia Power as a winter storm was forecast to bring ice and snow to metro Atlanta and north Georgia on Monday and Tuesday.
Metro Atlanta was forecast to receive up to 1 inch of ice, followed by 3-5 inches of snow.
The storm team left various company locations including Crestview, Pensacola and Chipley on Monday. They spent the night south of Atlanta to wait for the storm to pass.
“Storm trips like this keep our crews sharp and we bring new skills back that help us right here at home,” Jeff Rogers, Gulf Power's corporate communications manager, said. “Our crews were in Texas following a winter storm to help restore power this past December — and that experience paid off when it came to restoring power in our own Northwest Florida ice storm."
