CRESTVIEW — When Walker Elementary School's Owls go above and beyond expected behavior, whether academic or social, there’s a good chance they’ll be rewarded.
The school’s three-year-old “Hoot Loot” incentive program treats students caught in the act of excelling.
“When a student is chosen, that student gets recognition and a treat such as a Hershey bar, a certificate for a free ice cream from McDonald's, or other prize,” school clerk Jennifer Johnson said.
Among several students who recently were treated, she said, were first-grader Nicholas Gemina and fourth-grader Jamar Jones, who volunteered to help straighten books in the library.
Third-grader Mercedes Privitera, fifth-grader Aliciya Phillips and second-grader Laney Skinner were recognized for turning their homework in on time.
“All these students were caught doing a good job being respectful, responsible and/or being ready to learn,” Johnson said.
