CRESTVIEW — For baseball protégés attending the Crestview Bulldog Youth Baseball Camp, the high school's field is paradise.
This week, boys and girls ages 4-13 can swing the bat, run bases and throw the ball as they learn the fundamentals of America’s national pastime from Crestview High School Coach Tim Gillis and his staff of players.

Carson Polk, 12 — a camp veteran, having attended the past three or four years — said the camp has helped his swing.
“I’ve learned how to hit in form,” he said.
His favorite part of the camp is the team games played the last 30 minutes of each session.
Tommy Roberts, a 10-year-old attending the camp for the first time, said, “It’s really awesome. I learned about the game and throwing."
Caleb Krunnow, 10, is more analytical in his assessment of things.
“I think some techniques Coach Gillis shows us are different from what we’ve learned from other coaches,” he said, “but they are still good.”
Gillis was happy with the camp's Monday start.
“It was a lot of fun," he said. "We dodged a little bit of rain early, but we actually went right through it and it kind of cooled us off for a minute.
“The kids really enjoyed it. They were locked in. Our school guys did a good job of jumping in and helping out too.”
