Editor’s Note: Here are Bill Everett’s college football picks for Sept. 3.
●Boston College vs. Georgia Tech at Dublin Ireland: The Yellow Jackets — or, as some of us old timers know them, “Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech” — think they can use the luck of the Irish to start their season. Could be — Yellow Jackets by 3.
●Auburn vs. Clemson: This is the ACC game of the week for both teams. The Tigers want to make up for their loss to Alabama and the National Championship. So bring on the War Eagles; it is not Alabama, but Clemson said they will do. Clemson by 11.
●North Carolina vs. Georgia at Atlanta, Ga. The Tar Heels are a good team in the ACC, but now they want to take on the Big Dawgs from Georgia — and it’s going to be a big bite. Dawgs by 13.
●Villanova vs. Pittsburgh: The Panthers still think they are in the East Conference — they should have stayed. Panthers by a lot.
●Alabama vs. USC at Arlington, Texas. Your guess is just as good as mine. The Trojans think the Crimson Tide are done — guess again. Alabama by 10.
●Massachusetts Minutemen vs. Florida: Boy, is that the right name for Massachusetts. It is going to take about a minute for the Gators to score many touchdowns. Florida by a lot.
●Missouri vs. West Virginia: Did you know that W.V. wanted to come to either the SEC or ACC, but they would not take them? They are alike, but the Tigers are better in the zone. This is close — Missouri by 1.
●LSU vs. Wisconsin at Green Bay. What was Les Miles thinking on this one? Your first game of the year should be BO-Dunk U, not the Badgers at Green Bay Stadium. Wisconsin by 6 — and LSU looking for a new coach fast.
●UCLA vs. Texas A&M: The Aggies no longer miss Johnny Football. Bruins do not do well when they travel. Texas A&M by 10.
●Florida State vs. Ole Miss at Orlando, Florida. The Seminoles think that the ACC belongs to them this year; the Rebels are using the Seminoles as a tune-up for Alabama. Ole Miss by 18.
TIE BREAKER: You pick the score on this one, plus the winner: Texas vs. Notre Dame.
