North Okaloosa students recognized

CRESTVIEW — Here are highlights involving area students:

Honor student

Lauren Chambers of Crestview is now a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Chambers was initiated at Florida State University. Chambers joins approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

North Okaloosa winners at the annual Northwest Florida State College Arnie Hart Juried Student Art Exhibition April 29 in Niceville are:

•Taylor Martin of Crestview, Best in Show for his pastel drawing on paper, Abigail

•Isabel T. Collins of Crestview, first place 3-D for her ceramic pot, Dogwood Circle

•Sandy Harrison of Crestview, second place 2-D for her oil painting on campus, Rabbit Stew

•Matthew Owen Williams of Baker, second place 3-D for his mixed-media and wood sculpture, REST

•Jarett Costner of Baker, third place 3-D for his wood and mixed-media sculpture, Confusion

•Jose Molina of Crestview, third place 2-D for his color pencil drawing on paper, Tools

•Toby Cimino of Crestview, honorable mention for Drifting Away

•Jose Molina of Crestview, honorable mention for Fort Barancas

The Arnie Hart student and faculty exhibitions are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and 90 minutes prior to most Mattie Kelly Arts Center performances at NWFSC, 100 College Blvd., Niceville.
