Crestview woman accused of attempting to murder her husband

Gladys Chancey

CRESTVIEW — Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office investigators say a Crestview woman invited her husband to lie down on the bed — then pulled out a filet knife and stabbed him near the heart.

Gladys Chancey, 63, of Sorrel Ridge Road, is charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators said Gladys and Mark Chancey argued the evening of June 24 and Gladys invited Mark into the bedroom to talk. She also invited him to lie on his side of the bed and, as he did so, she allegedly pulled out a knife from behind her back and stabbed him in the upper chest.

Her husband pulled out the knife and the pair began struggling. He said Gladys then reached under the bed and pulled out a 9-mm. semi-automatic pistol, which he was able to get away from her.

Mark Chancey contacted a family member, who called 9-1-1. When deputies arrived, Mark was holding down Gladys to keep her from doing additional harm to him, according to the OCSO report.

He was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
