CRESTVIEW — A Crestview man faces multiple charges by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly became violent with his live-in girlfriend and shot out a window inside their home with a shotgun.
According to an OCSO media release, William “Dale” Cheatwood, 37, of Sowell Drive is accused of "punching his girlfriend in the face, leaving a cut that required her to get medical attention at North Okaloosa Medical Center."
Deputies responded to their home at approximately 6 p.m. June 1, "but Cheatwood refused to come out and at one point, appeared in a window yielding a shotgun," according to the release.
The sheriff's department called in its Special Response Team.
"Cheatwood came outside and pointed the weapon at an occupied SRT vehicle before retreating back into the mobile home," the release stated.
"The Special Response Team ultimately used tear gas to successfully take him into custody."
Cheatwood faces charges of aggravated battery with bodily harm, assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence.
Deputies found multiple loaded weapon inside the home, according to the OSCO release.
The release stated, "His girlfriend says she did not believe he planned to harm her and that when Cheatwood becomes upset, he likes to shoot windows.
"She says he shot out the window of a hotel room in Columbus, Mississippi a couple weeks ago."
