Deputies nab Crestview man accused of threatening boys

CRESTVIEW — A Crestview man accused of threatening three juveniles with a shotgun Feb. 20 ran into woods in an area off Rattlesnake Bluff Road this afternoon as Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to take him into custody on an active warrant, according to an arrest report.

Deputies set up a perimeter and called in a K9 to help with the search for 49-year-old Jerry James Moran after Moran bailed out of a truck around 3 p.m. today, according to the OCSO. He came out of the woods about 75 minutes later and surrendered to deputies without incident, saying he did not want to hurt anyone or get hurt.

OCSO deputies had been trying to locate Moran on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. The charges stem from an incident on Hassell Road around 8 p.m. Feb. 20. Three boys — ages 12, 15 and 16 — say Moran approached them with a shotgun while they were sitting outside at a neighbor’s residence there.

They say Moran accused them of being on his property and threatened to kill them. All three juveniles say they were in fear for their lives.
