Northwest Florida State College hosts science seminar on Maya ruin

NICEVILLE – Northwest Florida State College’s spring 2016 Science Seminar Series starts with a presentation by Archaeologist Jennifer Wildt, Ph.D., of Prentice Thomas and Associates.

Wilt will talk about "New Discoveries at the Ancient Maya City of Xultun" from 11 a.m. to noon Jan. 22 at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, and recent discoveries there that disproved the Maya 2012 doomsday myth, and her own work on understanding Maya social gatherings in plazas.

The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Room 110, building 350, the Robert E. Greene Jr. Science Building.

Xultun, located deep in the Guatemalan jungle, was once home to 10,000 people and an important center of political power. Excavations began at the site in 2008 and have unearthed a wealth of information about the city and the lives of its inhabitants.
