CRESTVIEW — If someone claiming to be from a power company knocks on your door, check his or her credentials and call the company for verification.
A Crestview senior citizen says someone claiming to be from a local power company came to her door over the weekend requesting to do some lighting work due to “increased drug activity by the power lines."
When the Highway 90 resident went outside with the man, another scammer went into her home and stole more than $3,000 in jewelry, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
OCSO deputies say similar burglary and grand theft scams have been reported in neighboring counties.
