HOLT — A man wanted for burglary and grand theft auto is charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, criminal mischief, depriving an officer of means of communication, and fleeing and eluding.

The man, identified as George Arthur Kelley, 42, with no fixed home address, allegedly led Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies on a Friday foot chase in the Holt area, attempting to disarm one of them before being taken into custody.

Kelley is accused of burglarizing a 7040 W. State Road 4 home in Baker on Nov. 4 in which two ATVs and a motorcycle were stolen.

Deputies were attempting to serve the burglary and auto theft warrants on Kelley around 7 a.m. Friday near Johnson Street and Peter Parker Road in the Holt area when he jumped out of his car and fled into nearby woods, according to an arrest report.

Kelley refused demands to stop and, at one point, tried to grab a deputy’s gun and took his radio during a struggle, the report stated. A deputy tazed and arrested him.

Deputies charged Melissa Ann Smith, 36, of 1454 McCauley Road in Baker, with accessory after the fact.

They said after Kelley fled the truck, Smith drove it under clothes lines and through a fire pit, attempting to remove it from the area.
