Crestview woman charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide

Julie M. Agerton

CRESTVIEW — A Crestview woman has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury and vehicular homicide in connection with a June 6 fatal traffic incident.

Julie M. Agerton, 50, was driving a vehicle that struck two pedestrians at the intersection of Wilson Street and Martin Luther Jr. Boulevard, killing 55-year-old Steven Beaupre and seriously injuring 58-year-old William Barber, according to the Crestview Police Department.

Beaupre and Barber were walking south on Wilson Street when Agerton struck the pedestrians from behind after running a stop sign, according to police.

During the investigation, police believed that Agerton may have been impaired by drugs or alcohol. Results of a blood sample obtained from Agerton after the incident were sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to determine if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The results, which were recently returned from the state, indicated that Agerton used Alprazolam (Zanax) at the time of the fatal accident, according to police.

On Sept. 28, Agerton was arrested in Richland County, S.C., on an unrelated retail theft charge, and was incarcerated at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Facility when the warrant for her arrest was issued Oct. 7 out of Crestview.

Agerton is incarcerated and awaits extradition back to Florida to face those charges.
