News Bulletin feature and commentary earn state press awards

CRESTVIEW — The Crestview News Bulletin has received two Florida Press Association 2014 Better Weekly Newspaper Contest awards.

Editor Thomas Boni received the following:

•Feature Story — Profile Award, Third Place, Division C, for "He saved my life: love, support help woman overcome 12 years of sexual violence," from the Oct. 15-17, 2014 edition.

•Serious Column — The Sally Latham Memorial Award, Third Place, Division C, for "A closer look at the ALS ice bucket challenge," from the Sept. 3-5, 2014 edition.

Out-of-state industry executives judged the contest. The FPA recognized winners during a July 23-24 convention at the Westin Lake Mary in Lake Mary.

These are Boni's second and third Florida Press Association awards since he joined the News Bulletin in August 2012. He won the First Place Editorial Award last year.

He also earned six Alabama Press Association awards between 2006 and 2011, and Spring Hill College's 2005 Catholic Press Award.
