Kentucky man accused of rape jailed in Crestview

SHALIMAR, Fla. — A man wanted in Lewis County Kentucky for first-degree rape of a child under 12 years old and first-degree sodomy of a child under 12 years old has been arrested by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

James Michael Savoie, 28, had moved to the Destin area and was using a stolen and assumed identity of a Tennessee man while working at a Destin business, the sheriff’s office said.

OCSO deputies tracked Savoie Wednesday afternoon to the Motel 6 on Harbor Boulevard in Destin. They forced entry after Savoie refused to open the door. Savoie refused orders to get on the ground so he was forced to the ground and was secured in handcuffs.

Savoie was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview, where he is being held without bond as he awaits extradition to Kentucky.
