Distracted driving results in five-vehicle crash

The driver of a Jeep was distracted with a cell phone when the vehicle ran into the back of Buick sedan, which caused three other vehicles to be rear-ended, Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Traffic was temporarily being redirected on North State Road 85 earlier today, around the scene of a five-vehicle traffic incident that occurred this afternoon.

Fire and EMS crews from both Crestview and Eglin Air Force Base responded to the incident in which four people were transported to area hospitals by EMS, according to a Florida Highway Patrol officer on scene.

All were sent to North Okaloosa Medical Center, except for one, who was sent to a hospital on Eglin AFB.

The incident occurred when the driver of a Jeep ran into the back of Buick sedan, which caused three other vehicles to be rear-ended, the office stated. Witnesses at the scene reportedly told him the driver of the Jeep was distracted with a cell phone.
