CRESTVIEW — Officials with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a Thursday morning crash on Farmer Street and Stillwell Boulevard.
A 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup truck was northbound on Farmer Street around 1 a.m. when for unknown reasons it left the roadway and struck a tree, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
After hitting the tree, the vehicle went through some brush and then overturned.
Once the vehicle stopped, all three occupants fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of law enforcement, according to witness statements.
During the investigation, one of the three occupants, 18-year-old Zachery T. Layton, was located by the Crestview Police Department. A second occupant, 18-year-old Tyler M. Fuller, was found at the crash scene after he had friends return him there.
Both men said they weren’t the driver of the vehicle, but the third occupant, and alleged driver, has not been identified, according to the release.
Charges are pending further investigation.
