FORT WALTON BEACH — Entering Wednesday night’s matchup with undefeated Crestview High School, Choctawhatchee knew an upset would only be possible with a near-perfect effort.
And that was only reinforced in the first set, when the Indians watched a 23-22 lead vanish in the blink of an eye as 7-0 Crestview won the opener 25-23.
But the Indians didn’t hang their heads on their home court. Instead, they made adjustments; with them, the momentum turned, and it turned quickly.
Freshman Evelina Teran put up a dominant defensive effort with a team-best five blocks to accompany five kills, Shannon McDonald and Emily Keichel each dished out a team-high 13 assists, and Heather Young led the Indians with 12 kills en route to a 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 win.
