NWF State sees jump in graduation rates

NICEVILLE — For students who enroll in college, the goal is to complete with the diploma or credential of their choice.

However, many students complete their credits and leave college without actually completing the graduation application process.　

Northwest Florida State College has implemented an Auto Grad system to help its students complete the graduation process.

"To 'auto grad' means that when students have completed the credits that they need to graduate, they are noted as a graduate in our system even if they have already left the college," college President Devin Stephenson said.

By implementing this process, NWFSC has seen a 27 percent increase, from 483 graduates in the fall 2016, to 615 graduates in fall 2017.

The auto grad function also eliminates the need for students to formally declare their graduation, which is often a point of confusion.　

"By adding this process, we are not only assisting our students, but improving upon our internal processes," Stephenson said. "Ultimately, our students and their success come first.

"Adding this process is one more way that we can ensure that our students are successful in our local workforce."
