Firearms safety classes begin Jan. 30

NICEVILLE — Northwest Florida State College's Criminal Justice Department is offering four more sessions of its Firearms Safety and Concealed Carry Course during the spring 2013 term.

Session start dates include Jan. 30, Feb. 23, March 20, and April 27. This semester, groups of at least six participants may request a customized course schedule to suit the group’s needs.

One-day sessions from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. are Feb. 23 and April 27. Two-day sessions are available 6-10 p.m. Jan. 30 and March 20 (classroom portion) and 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 1 and March 22 from (gun range portion). Customized class times are also available for groups.

Each eight-hour non-credit course includes classroom discussion on current legal issues related to firearms safety and gun possession in Florida as well as live fire practice at the college's Niceville campus.

The $156 class includes the use of college firearms (personal firearms are not permitted), and college-supplied ammunition and protection. Certain restrictions apply.

Successful completion of the course satisfies state requirements for a firearms safety course. It may be used in application for a concealed carry permit.

Registration is available for all session dates. Current or previous NWFSC students may enroll for the non-credit workshop online through the college's RaiderNet web registration system.

New students should enroll in person at any of the college's seven area locations beginning today, Jan. 2.
