Saturday golf tournament to benefit Baker band

CRESTVIEW — The Baker School band Boosters’ second annual Swing for the Music golf tournament is this Saturday at Foxwood Country Club.

The tournament ─scheduled for 8-11 a.m. ─will raise money for the band program.

Proceeds will benefit band trips and events, along with repairing or replacing band uniforms and equipment, event organizer Steve Sparkman said.

The amount of additional funds necessary to run a band program yearly is more than $50,000 above official funding, he said.

Participants can win door prizes from local businesses or bid in a silent auction. Items available include a one-night stay for two at a Biloxi area hotel and free dinner for two at the hotel restaurant, in addition to complimentary golf outings from area golf courses, Sparkman said.

Registration to play is $50, $40 for Foxwood members. Lunch for participants is at the country club, courtesy of Sparkman, who plans to grill out for the participants.  Registration forms are available at the country club, 4927 Antioch Road.
