Crestview High School presents Aug. 1-2 basketball camp

CRESTVIEW — Crestview High School boys basketball coach Greg Watson and girls coach Kathy Combest and their staffs will join forces for the inaugural Crestview High School Basketball Camp.

The camp, 5-8 p.m. Aug. 1-2, is open to rising thirdthrough eighth-graders. Cost is $30, and registration will be at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

“We just wanted to get a shooting camp out there,” Combest said. “This is going to be a skills camp, but we are going to concentrate on a lot of shooting.

“That’s the biggest thing Chelsea (Combest, Kathy’s daughter) and I have figured out: Their fundamentals aren’t as good in shooting as we would like to be.

“We are going to start every year putting on this shooting camp. We will still be working on other skills, but shooting will be our primary focus.” Watson was named the CHS boys coach last month. “I think I can work with anybody,” Combest said.

“I’ve already started to get to know him. I like him, and we sort of think the same things.” Combest sees no problem with conducting the coed camp. “I’ve done it at Baker for years and years, and I love it,” she said. “It makes the girls more competitive. And the boys will benefi t, too.”

The Crestview boys and girls basketball teams will share camp proceeds.
