Senior citizens refuse to give scammers account information

SHALIMAR — The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office asks residents to report swindle attempts following two south county incidents.

A 90-year-old Shalimar resident received suspicious calls from two men, one of whom had a Jamaican accent. The first man said she won a Mercedes car. She hung up before providing personal information.

The second caller said her grandson was in jail in Canada, and asked her to send bond money. She wasn’t fooled by that attempt either.

An 82-year-old Bluewater Bay woman received a call from someone with a Jamaican accent, and an 876 area code, who said she’d won the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes. She shared no personal information with the caller.
