The Club Challengers U14 team has had an eventful season, competing in, and winning, the Heart of Dixie tournament in Montgomery, Ala., the Club Fusion tournament in Panama City and the March Madness tournament in Pensacola.
The team finished second in the Gulf Coast Regional Championship at the University of West Florida and finished with an overall record of 35-4.
Girls from Davidson Middle School and Shoal River Middle School were on coach Gaby Austin’s U14 team.
The 12U team also had a successful season.
Toni Toney coached the team of eight sixth-grade girls who practiced two to three times a week.
Although the team had no real game experience prior to its first tournament, it won the Randy Pounders, Club Fusion and Daphne, Ala.-based Battle of the Bay tournaments and finished second in the Regional Championship.
The team finished the season with a 38-7 record.
The travel volleyball club comprises two teams: a girls 11- 12-year-old team and a girls 13- to 14-year-old team.
Club Challengers is sanctioned by USA Volleyball and is affiliated with the Gulf Coast Region Volleyball Organization, which spans Panama City to Mobile, Ala.
Tryouts were held in December of 2012. The teams started practicing in January to prepare for the upcoming season.
