Gulf Power: Beware of telephone scams

Gulf Power asks customers to beware of people calling Northwest Florida residents and businesses impersonating utility company employees.

An escalated amount of customers has reported fraudulent calls. Customers are being told their electric bill is past due and electricity will be cut off if the customer does not provide credit card information or other form of immediate payment.

Gulf Power employees will never call a customer at home seeking personal information, including credit card numbers. The company’s representatives will never ask a customer for money when they visit a residence. All Gulf Power representatives carry badges with photo ID that includes the employee’s name and the company’s name and logo.

Call Gulf Power, 1-800-225-5797, to confirm a representative’s identity.
