A man from Crestview was shot and killed early Friday in a home in Jacksonville, N.C., and a Marine has been arrested in connection with the killing.
Jacksonville police identified the victim as Dale Smith, 39, of Crestview. Smith worked as a civilian contractor.
Benjamin Marisic, 24, who lived at the home where the shooting occurred, was been arrested and charged with one open count of murder.
He was being held without bond later Friday.
Marisic is an active-duty Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service also is investigating the shooting.
“The investigation is ongoing,” said Lt. Ronnie Dorn, supervisor in the Investigative Services Division.
Police were dispatched to the scene at 3:47 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. Officers found Smith dead from a gunshot wound in the home.
