CRESTVIEW — Crestview High School's baseball team has its work cut out for it when the Bulldogs travel to Tallahassee on Wednesday and face Lawton Chiles High School in the Class 7A region quarterfinals.
Game time is 6 p.m. CDT.
Crestview Coach Tim Gillis believes the Bulldogs will have their hands full with the Timberwolves.
"They were pretty good," he said. "Max Preps has them ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 7A and No. 6 overall in the state.
"They've got four pitchers that are very good and they swing the bats good. It's going to be tough, but if we go and play well, I like our chances."
The key to any success the Bulldogs might have will depend on their ability to get some clutch hits in some big situations to play good defense, Gillis said.
"We've kind of shored (the defense) up," he said. "We struggled a little bit early, but the last couple of weeks we've played really good defense and we've continued to pitch it well to give ourselves a chance.
"The key to playoff baseball is being able to get 2-out hits with runners in scoring position. That's what I hope we will do a little better job of once the playoffs start."
