Man gets 15 years for fleeing and eluding charges

William Eddins, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit, announced today that Lonnie Dobson Jr. has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison and classified as an habitual felony offender on the charges of fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer at high speed; and driving while license revoked, pursuant to habitual traffic offender.

Dobson was convicted by a jury in August. The charges arose when Crestview Police Department officers attempted to stop Dobson and he fled, reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour in residential areas in Crestview, as well as almost striking other Crestview officers.

Dobson was also sentenced on two additional charges of driving while license revoked pursuant to habitual traffic offender and two counts of failure to appear.

The investigation and arrest were made by the Crestview Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Laresa Dudley was responsible for the prosecution.
