CRESTVIEW — George Hillsman, Crestview Parks and Recreation Department supervisor, says the annual summer camp program kicks off Monday at Twin Hills Park.
The camps usually start right when school ends, but details for this year’s camps have only been finalized the last week or so.
Hillsman said response for the camps has been minimal so far, but he hopes that improves as word gets out.
“We have not had as much response as we were hoping to have,” he said. “Word travels slow sometimes."
Children can attend basketball, fishing or soccer camps.
Kenny Lee, a Milton native who played high school and college ball in St. Louis, will lead the basketball camp.
“Kenny Lee was a pretty promising player, but he was in an (car) accident over in Pensacola (in 2009) that left him paralyzed from the waist down,” Hillsman said. “He was a heck of a ball player …"
Lee will cover the basics of basketball with a lot of fundamentals and drills, Hillsman said.
Crestview High School outdoor education teacher Ernie Martin will lead the fishing camp.
Crestview High School boys soccer Coach Scottie Milton will teach the soccer camp.
