CRESTVIEW — The Crestview Police Department said an investigation is underway following Thursday's lockdown in the Brookmeade Drive area.
Authorities locked the area down Thursday afternoon after receiving multiple reports that a male individual, wearing a blue hoodie, a ski mask, and brandishing a pistol, was spotted near the Childcare Network facility on Brookmeade Drive.
Officers took immediate action in locking down the nearby North Okaloosa Medical Center and Shoal River Middle School. Officers with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office assisted Crestview police in establishing a search parameter, while a tracking canine unit from the Okaloosa Correctional Institute also searched and secured the area.
In a post on the CPD's Facebook page, the department stated that they had made contact with a person of interest in the case. Officers found a man who was in the area at the time, but he didn’t match the description provided by witnesses, CPD Lt. Andrew Schneider said.
The CPD is asking additional witnesses to contact the department's Criminal Investigations Division at 682-3544.
