CRESTVIEW — Lucas Lee and Khalil Foster, football teammates since their days at Richbourg Middle School, will continue their journey together this fall at Webber International University in Babson Park.
The Crestview High School graduates, who signed with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school last month, couldn’t be happier about the opportunity to play together.
“It’s really good,” Lee said. “He (Foster) has been my best friend ever since I met him back in middle school so I’m excited about that.”
Foster agreed.
“It feels great because Lucas has been my best friend, my boy since middle school,” he said. “It feels great to go with one of my brothers.”
Foster will be primarily used as a slot receiver at Webber and could see some time at quarterback.
“I really like the slot receiver position because that’s where I played all throughout high school,” he said. “I love catching the ball and I love making big plays so I thought that was a great fit for me.
"They run the spread similar to what Coach (Tim) Hatten did last year. That will help me a lot because I went down there and looked at what they were running and I was like, ‘I already ran that.’”
Lee, who stands 6-foot-7, 260 pounds, could end up playing several different positions for the Warriors.
“I’m going to play a little bit of tight end,” he said. “They are going to try me out on the offensive line and at defensive end too.
“They (the WIU coaches) just said be ready for anything.”
Lee said he prefers tight end, but he wouldn’t mind playing defensive end.
“I love playing it,” he said. “I’ve played it a little in the past.”
Lee and Foster report for their freshman year in early August. In the meantime, they will continue to work on getting stronger and faster as they prepare for their college football careers.
Lee projected to be a top college prospect early in his high school career. Injuries his junior year slowed his progress, but he’s not complaining.
“Things worked out that I got a full ride to Webber,” he said. It’s a big deal for me. I’m excited.”
