CRESTVIEW — Some Northwood Arts and Science Academy students have never seen professional artwork up close.
But as part of the school’s visual arts classes, through its new Visiting Artists program, art becomes a personal experience as practicing local artists come to the school, show samples of their work and describe the artistic process.
The program kicked off with a Monday afternoon visit by Crestview artist Peggy Hollingshead, whose work has been exhibited at the Crestview Public Library and in regional galleries.
“The artists come, show their work to the kids, talk to them about their style and process, and then get the students started on a project using their style and techniques,” art integration teacher Kristal Petruzzi said.
In October, Nicole Weaver, who exhibited at the library during the summer, will visit the program, followed by Charlotte Parrish in November.
