Harlem Wizards take on Crestview All-Stars for a cause

CRESTVIEW — An evening of high-flying basketball action will be on tap tomorrow night when the Harlem Wizards come to Crestview High School's gym to face the Crestview All-Stars.

Game time is 5:30 p.m. and game proceeds benefit Crestview High School's boys and girls basketball teams.

Bulldog assistant boys coach George Stakley, coordinating the event, explained how it came together.

"What happened is my friend, Joey Parker, is an assistant over at (Panama City) Bay High School, and he called me and said they have them coming on Monday and, 'Are you interested?'" Stakley said, "'Oh yeah.'

"I knew with the girls going into the playoffs they ended up going in the hole (financially) a little bit. So I got with Coach (Kathy) Combest (CHS girls coach) and said we can have a fundraiser and bring them in and have some fun and make a little money."

It wasn't hard to book the Wizards, Stakley said. Although the team's home base is in New York, they also have an Orlando area representative who helps book teams in Florida.

The Wizards put on a show geared toward the fans.

"It's going to be very entertaining," Stakley said. "They come in with a sound system and they have a DJ that gives a commentary on the game. It's going to be very exciting and accommodating for the fans and the kids.
