Man posing as Okaloosa deputy in phone extortion scam

SHALIMAR  — The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public about a phone scam involving a man claiming to be a sheriff's office lieutenant.

The caller tells people there is a warrant for their arrest and they need to send him money to clear it up. He has also set up a voicemail at a number with an 850-prefix, saying he is with OCSO.

It appears the bogus calls are being generated out of Gulf County.

Do not give this man any personal information or any money. If you receive a phone call from this person, report it by calling 651-7400.

Anyone with information on the individual responsible is also asked to call OSCO or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 863-TIPS.
