CRESTVIEW — Students nationwide are reading or hearing the stories of Theodore Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, as the National Education Association's Read Across America Day extends into the month.
Northwood Arts and Science Academy, like many schools, is stretching the day — celebrated on the school day closest to Geisel's March 2 birthday — throughout March, media specialist Kristal Petruzzi said.
Each morning this week, Principal Donna Goode read an excerpt from a Dr. Seuss book during morning announcements. The first classroom to correctly identify the book won a prize. In addition, several community leaders read to students, who also created Dr. Seuss characters from potatoes and designed bookmarks.
"At the end of the month we'll pick the top three to be professionally printed," Petruzzi said, adding the bookmarks will be distributed from the library.
