CRESTVIEW – A Fort Walton Beach couple is charged with burglarizing the home of a Crestview resident who had allegedly sold them a broken cellular telephone.
The burglary happened Jan. 22, according to the arrest report. The victims got home around 11 p.m. and found the back door opened, parts of the home ransacked and a laptop computer and purse with prescription medication missing.
A gaming system also appeared to have been moved, the report said. Crestview Police lifted fingerprints from the gaming system. The fingerprint matched a man who said he and another man had been there when 35-year-old Shelley Marie Sellers and 35-year-old Michael Jay Sellers burglarized the residence, according to the report. The man said when the four had gotten to the Crestview residence, Michael told the man to enter the house with him.
Michael told the man to pick up the gaming system, but when the two men realized they were “robbing” the home, they left without taking anything, the report said. Shelley told police that they had gone to the home to exchange a broken cell phone the victims sold to Michael.
The second man told police that Shelley told Michael to go into the house and “get my money,” according to the report. The second man said Michael handed Shelley a brown Gucci purse.
He said Michael left the residence with a black backpack that had items from the home inside, the report said. The two men were not arrested.
Michael and Shelley, who were arrested Aug. 2, are each charged with burglary of a dwelling unarmed without a person inside and grand theft of more than $300 but less than $5,000.
Their next scheduled court date is Sept. 2.
