Walker Elementary on lockdown after sighting of suspicious person

CRESTVIEW — Walker Elementary School is on lockdown, according to an Okaloosa County Schools spokesperson.

"A man, dressed head to toe in black including a ski mask, was seen near the campus," Henry Kelley, with the school district, said.

"The (school resource officer) put the school on lockdown and the sheriff's office and CPD are responding."

Update (10:28 a.m.)

It's important to clarify that Walker Elementary School is on a "modified" lockdown, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

In other words, the perimeter is secure, but students are on a normal schedule inside, according to an Okaloosa Schools spokesperson. 

(Basically, inside, students are learning as usual.)

Update (10:35 a.m.)

Authorities have lifted the modified lockdown at Walker Elementary School.  "Responding units did not locate anyone suspicous in the area," the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office tweets.

Update (10:51 a.m.)

Henry Kelley, with the Okaloosa County School District, says parents can expect to learn more about Walker Elementary School's modified lockdown soon.

"A call out will be placed to parents explaining what occurred at Walker Elementary later today," Kelley tweeted the News Bulletin and other media outlets.
