Davidson Middle School downs Shoal River in baseball

CRESTVIEW — The bats were busy at Shoal River Middle School on Monday. When the dust cleared Davidson had a 15-9 win over the Mustangs.

The teams combined for over 20 hits, including eight extra base hits.

The Panthers sealed the win with six runs in the seventh. The Panthers scored in the seventh on an RBI double by Cooper Martin, an RBI single by Chad Hayes, a three-run double by Aaron Cunningham, and an RBI single by Cade Johnston.

Martin helped the Panthers take the lead for good in the seventh inning. Austin Soler walked to get on base in the seventh. He then went from first to second on a passed ball.

Martin racked up two runs batted in on three hits for Davidson.

Cunningham recorded the win for the Panthers. He allowed two runs over two innings. He struck out four, walked one and gave up three hits.

Austin Chapman couldn't get it done on the hill for Shoal River in taking the loss. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed two runs.

Davidson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The Panthers attack began with a single from Cunningham. Johnston singled, plating Chandler Corbin. The Panthers then tacked on more runs when Cunningham scored on a groundout by Jacob Hill and Johnston scored on an RBI single by Soler.

The Panthers scored one run in the fourth inning, and then followed it up with one more in the fifth. In the fourth, the Panthers scored on a passed ball, scoring Hayes.

Shoal River quickly matched the Panthers' strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the fourth. Shoal River scored on a two-run triple by Shoemaker and a wild pitch.Davidson, the number three seed in the Okaloosa County Tournament, plays at Pryor Middle School, the two seed, at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
