Crestview's Keleigh Whited tries to avoid a Choctaw defender.

CRESTVIEW — Powered by a quick-strike offense and smothering defense Choctawhatchee High School rolled to a 20-0 win over Crestview in flag football action at Jack Foster Stadium on Thursday.

“They (the Indians) played good,” Choctawhatchee Coach Jim Bay said. “It was a long road trip up here and they stepped up.

“They were a little flat starting out, but we got real excited off the bat with a couple of good runs. We’ve got some speed on this team and we haven’t even go going yet.”

If the Indians were flat starting out it didn’t show.

Choctaw defender Sierra Lloyd intercepted a Keleigh Whited pass on the first play of the game.

Six plays later Kelsey Douglas found the end zone for a touchdown from five yards out. Indian quarterback Kassandra Fairly hit Lloyd with a pass for the extra point and Choctaw never to trail.

The Indians needed just one play to score on their second possession.

Fairly hit Kayla Douglas on a little flair pass down the north sideline and Douglas did the rest taking the ball 45 yards for the touchdown.

Choctaw led 13-0 at the end of the first quarter. But the Indians and Kayla Douglas weren’t quite finished.

Choctaw scored picked up its third touchdown in four possession on a 56-yard run by Kayla Douglas. Fairly hit Alex Loughney with the 2-point try and with just less than three minutes left in half the Indians were done scoring.

The Bulldog defense settled down in the second half as Crestview tried to get back into the game.

Brianna Sanchez ran hard for Crestview. And Netaya Winston came up with some big catches from Aliyiah Brown, but the Indians kept the Bulldogs out of the end zone and preserved the shutout.

The game was called on the mercy rule with two minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Indians up by 20.

Bulldog Coach Matt Sanders was happy with the way his team fought to the end.

“It doesn’t matter if they are down by 100 or up by 100, they are going to get their 100 percent and all they’ve got,” he said. “The rest of the things will take care of themselves.

“We use these games as a warm up (for the district tournament). We are so young and I can see improvement from the first game to this game. Now it’s a matter of finishing strong.
