CAMPUS REPORT: State test results, North Okaloosa grads announced

State education department releases standardized test results

The Florida Department of Education's first set of standardized test results show individual school performances varied. But the Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa County districts’ overall performance was above the state average in most of the results released.

Among the tests were the fifth- and eighth-grade science exams and end-of-course exams in U.S. history, biology and civics.

In fifth-grade science, pass rates in the three districts varied from 5 percent to 89 percent. At the eighth-grade level, one school saw no students pass the exam and another saw 97 percent pass it.

On the biology exam, which is generally given to high-schoolers, pass rates ranged from 9 percent to 96 percent.

Student performance on the U.S. history exam varied greatly, too, mostly based on grade level. For example, 11 freshmen who took the test in Okaloosa saw a 45 percent pass rate. The 1,140 juniors who took it saw the pass rate nearly double.

On the civics EOC, which is generally taken in seventh grade, local students overall performed well above the state average. All three districts also improved over their previous years pass rates in civics, according to a news release from FDOE.

Okaloosa also saw its pass rate improve in eighth-grade science and the U.S. history exam, according to results.
