BAKER — An unexpected thunderstorm didn’t deter Baker School’s Class of 2015 graduation Thursday evening.
The skies above Doug Griffith Memorial Stadium opened up about 45 minutes before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. ceremony forcing school officials to make a quick change of venue plans. Moved inside to the Baker gym, the ceremony was only 15 minutes late getting started and proved to be a memorable occasion for 114 class members and their families.

Seth Forehand delivered the Graduate’s Address. Forehand quoted Robert Frost and scriptures from the Bible as he challenged his classmates to be builders and creators, not wreckers.
“Each and every day choose the right attitude,” he said. “It determines how successful you will be.”
Quoting from Proverbs 3 in the Bible he encouraged the class to “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.”
Baker Principal Mike Martello was pleased with the way everyone pulled together to assure a great experience for the graduates.
“Our staff came together and pulled it off and I think we had a classy and dignified ceremony for our seniors,” he said. “A couple of accolades for them is they had over a half million dollars in scholarships earned this year. That’s one of the highest ever at Baker School.”
Martello described the night as bittersweet as the students he watched grow up were going away into life.
Graduation night for Alexis Mitchem marked not only the end of her high school days at Baker, but of her time at the school she’s attended since kindergarten.
“It’s amazing,” she said. “I’ve grown up knowing this school and everyone here. I’m graduating with all my friends.”
