Crestview police among top 3 in SWAT competition

CRESTVIEW — The Crestview Police Department has bragging rights, having placed in the 3rd Annual Deputy Anthony "Tony" Forgione Memorial SWAT Competition.

Ten teams from across the region and state competed. The CPD ranked third place; second went to Bay County Sheriff's Office; and Osceola County Sheriff's Office, first.

SWAT operators were tasked with several scenarios such as: tactical shooting, sniper situations, tactical entry, rescue events, team cooperation, physical endurance and tactical planning.

The event — held Thursday at K&M Precision Tactical Firing Range in Baker and Friday at Northwest Florida State College — commemorates Deputy Anthony Forgione, a former member of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office's Special Response Team who was killed July 22, 2008 during an SRT Operation.

Event proceeds benefit COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors).
