NICEVILLE — James “Jim” Chambers has established the Marc B. Chambers Technical Theater Scholarship Endowment in memory of his son, Marc, who died in a 1995 car accident.
The $15,000 endowment, designated for students majoring in the college’s technical theater program, is the first of its kind at Northwest Florida State College.
While Marc was an Okaloosa-Walton Community College student, and before the Mattie Kelly Arts Center came into being, he developed an interest in the college’s budding arts program and volunteered to work the lighting for several theater productions performed in the Niceville Campus College Mall.
After his graduation with an Associate in Arts degree in 1995, he planned to pursue an electrical engineering degree from the University of West Florida. That summer, Marc was involved in a fatal car accident.
“This scholarship endowment recognizes the behind-the-scenes crew, who work tirelessly to ensure a quality production for each and every show,” college President Ty Handy said. “We are grateful that Mr. Chambers has chosen to bestow this gift on a future generation of students in memory of his son.”
