Crestview student participating in scholarship program set for Saturday

Lydia Clark, of Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa County’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2015, will present the DYW medallion during Saturday's program at the Fort Walton Beach Civic Auditorium.

FORT WALTON BEACH — A Crestview teenager is among participants in the Distinguished Young Women's Okaloosa County scholarship program, which is scheduled for Saturday.

The program— 7 p.m. at the Fort Walton Beach Civic Auditorium, 107 Miracle Strip Parkway SW, Fort Walton Beach — features: Sarah Craig, Crestview; Colleen Ellis, Courtney Hoover, Mary Claire “MC” Cockrum, Grace Barton, Carmen Little, Madison “Mimi” Taylor and Ellis Daughterty, Niceville; Lauren Kubelka and Emileigh Gaddis, Destin; and Cynthia “CJ” McDonald and Brianna “Bri” Fallon, Fort Walton Beach.

Evaluation categories include Scholastics, Interview, Talent, Fitness and Self-Expression.

Community service is a significant part of the scholarship program, and Okaloosa County’s DYW Class of 2016 has already been active in their communities presenting the outreach program, “Be Your Best Self." The BYBS program encourages girls and young women to be healthy, ambitious, involved, responsible and studious.

Before the Saturday evening program, the 12 participants will have been scored and ranked scholastically, have presented their BYBS programs for an award, and will have completed interviews with the judges.
