CRESTVIEW — Laurel Hill School mathematics teacher Judith Rodriguez, one of three Okaloosa County School District Teacher of the Year finalists, has made strides with struggling students.
Being proficient with numerous math practices supported in District Professional Development helps, she said.
“During my first year at Laurel Hill School, all students in the intensive math classes were able to show learning gains on their FCAT,” Rodriguez said. “I consistently use formative data as a tool to track my students’ learning.”
Rodriguez, who has more than 10 years' teaching experience, joined the Okaloosa County School District in 2013. Before coming to Laurel Hill School, she taught for the Wichita Falls Independent School District as a fourth- to sixth-grade math teacher.
In addition to Rodriguez, Catherine Beaudoin, of Pryor Middle School, and Jacqueline Sheffield, Fort Walton Beach High School, have been named the top finalists for the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year award.
The winner will be announced Feb. 19 during the annual banquet dinner, and will compete for 2016 Macy’s Florida Teacher of the Year.
