CRESTVIEW — Monday was the first day of the school year for students around the area.
At Bob Sikes Elementary, kindergartners walked into their classrooms with parents and older siblings as their teachers greeted them with smiles and "Welcome!"
The children walked in wearing new clothes with shiny new backpacks on ready to face the day. Parents took pictures of their kids and helped them take their supplies out of their backpacks before hugging and kissing their new kindergartners goodbye.
Some students cried at the realization that their parents would not be staying with them, while others happily walked to find the seat with their name tag. Papers were placed at each desk for the students to draw on until the school bell starting the day rang.
