CRESTVIEW — A Crestview man who was shot twice after forcing his way into an Okaloosa Island apartment last month has been charged with burglary and battery by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

27-year old Eddie Ray Moore of Chestnut Avenue was taken into custody early this morning.

Investigators say Moore knocked on Jonathan Kirby’s door on Bluefish Drive around 7 a.m. July 1 and then pushed his way into the apartment. Kirby says Moore hit him and the pair began struggling. Kirby got his .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun from the kitchen.

He told investigators when Moore pulled out his own firearm, he fired at him multiple times, hitting Moore in the right hip and leg. Moore was able to walk to his car parked outside and drive himself to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Emergency Room.

Kirby says two days earlier Moore had accused him of selling narcotics to a family member and they had a heated argument that got physical.
